How to Survive the Apocalypse grew out of thoughts I was exploring during the Covid crisis and the sharp withdrawal of civil liberties that came with it. At the time I set it up, I had no idea how to survive an apocalypse — to be honest, I still don’t. I’m not sure anyone does. And yet, the situation has evolved, and our ideas are growing clearer.

This substack has also evolved, into a whole different project called The Parallel Polis. As a result, posts are no longer being made here, but the thought experiment is ongoing, on the new substack. If you would like to follow it, please sign up there instead:

Below is the old About page for How to Survive the Apocalypse

apocalypse (n.)

late 14c., "revelation, disclosure," from Church Latin apocalypsis "revelation," from Greek apokalyptein "uncover, disclose, reveal," from apo "off, away from" (see apo-) + kalyptein "to cover, conceal" (from PIE root *kel- (1) "to cover, conceal, save"). The general meaning "a cataclysmic event" is modern (not in OED 2nd ed., 1989); apocalypticism "belief in an imminent end of the present world" is from 1858.

Online Etymology Dictionary

We live in a time of Great Revealing.

Brexit, and the election of Donald Trump, served as prelude. Assumptions and norms began to be stripped away as the people tried, through the ballot box, to make themselves heard.

But then came 2020 vision. Both Covid and Biden’s coup revealed the depth of corruption of state and judiciary, and the collusion of Big Corp, whether pharma, tech, or media industries.

As the scales fall from our eyes, more and more people are beginning to understand that something crucial has changed. The way of life we thought would last forever has been irrevocably shaken, and what comes next cannot look like what came before. How it will change, and what our new lives will look like, is still up for grabs. There is all to play for.

This substack is dedicated to examining this paradigm shift, and how we can take steps to ensure that our lives change for the better.
